Review: Wolford Special Edition 15 Tights

One of the joys of visiting an outlet is finding something unique from a pile of discounted items.  The Special Edition 15 Tights (a.k.a. 15 Tights) is one of those treasured gifts I discovered during my visit in Bregenz Outlet.  And here are my thoughts…

Strengths & Weaknesses

⊕ Amazing elasticity.
⊕ Very good envelopment on the panty and legs.

• Shiny instead of matte, as the product info describes.

⊗ Tight waistband.

Packaging & product description

The packaging uses the standard cardboard, tri-fold cardboard and transparent plastic sleeve manner.

The product description online and on the rear cover was short: “Highly transparent tights in a natural matte finish”.  This is actually not accurate, as we will see further down in the review.

Appearance & texture

The special edition 15 tights are sheer tights (15 denier appearance) in shiny finish.  It is sheer-to-waist.  The texture is smooth yet synthetic.  The waistband measures 2.5cm wide.  There is also a finger band immediately below the waistband, which is 5.5cm wide.  A gusset is included and the toes are lightly reinforced.

The composition is 89% polyamide and 11% elastane.

Size range

There are 4 sizes for this style.  I have attached the size chart.  Size S is used for this review.

There were five colours during initial release.  They are Caramel, Honey, Cosmetic, Gobi and Black.  Now it is subject to availability.  I bought Caramel for this review.

The fit was relatively good and true to the size recommendation.  There was very good envelopment on both the panty and the legs.  The waistband was however tight on my waist and therefore dig in.

The tights are actually very stretchy despite having relative small amount of elastane.  I was moving stuffs here and there, walking up and downstairs and kneeling down & stand up from time to time.  Yet there was no sign of bags.

Instead of matte, the tights are shiny. I would say the shininess matches closely with Wolford Satin Touch 20 range.   The colour distribution is even and has a look of being made of high quality.

The texture was relatively soft to the touch.  It felt smooth but somewhat synthetic.  The breathability was only moderate despite being sheer tights.  I could feel the heat being trapped a short period of time after putting them on.  This makes the tights more suitable for colder days.

Final words

Given the appearance, it is difficult not to treat 15 Tights as Satin Touch 20 with lesser denier.  The tights however, have its own unique features.  These include superb elasticity, which led to no bags even after prolonged wear, and a very good envelopment.  The drawbacks were having a tighter waistband and moderate breathability.

Both the 15 Tights and the Mat 10 tights I reviewed earlier were released in mid 2016.  They have very similar appearances to Wolford’s existing statements: Satin Touch 20 and Individual 10 respectively.  May be Wolford was experimenting with different knitting or testing the market with these variants.  Neither of them have been updated in summer 2017, and the summer to come.

The original price is €19, £14 or USD$27, but should you find them in outlet, they will be in cheaper prices.
