Review: Wolford Synergy 40 Leg Support Tights

Following a fantastic, warm week in London, this week is pretty much back to a normal British spring.  Luckily, I have brought a few pairs of semi-opaque and opaque tights.  Among these is a new pair from Wolford – the Synergy 40 Leg Support Tights.

Strengths & Weaknesses

⊕ Medium support to the thigh and tummy and hips.
⊕ Small amount of elastane yet pretty stretchy.
⊕ Very comfortable to wear thanks to its very soft and smooth texture.

⊗ Very mild support to the calves.

Packaging & product description

The packaging uses the standard cardboard, tri-fold cardboard and transparent plastic sleeve manner.  The online description reads as follows:

“Semi-transparent tights for all occasions – even when the legs are put to the test: the vitalising effect also offers a degree of stimulation. The subtle pearly shine makes the legs look slimmer.”

  • Use of the exclusive Synergy thread
  • Comfortable, soft sewn-on waistband with the Wolford logo
  • Barely visible shadow toe reinforcement
  • Cotton gusset

Appearance & texture

The Synergy 40 are semi-opaque (40 denier appearance) in reflective sheen fashion.  The texture feels very smooth and soft.  It is also pretty elastic.  The Wolford signature waistband measures 2.3cm wide.  It is made of elastic band with plush on the inner side and a laced edge.  The fingerband is 4.7cm wide.  There is a cotton gusset, and the toe section is lightly reinforced.

The composition is 92 polyamide and 8% elastane.

Size range

The size ranges from XS to XL.  I have attached the size chart below.  I have used size S for this review.

At the time of writing this review, there are 10 colours available.  I have listed them below in accordance with the image.  Black was used in this review.

Caramel, Coca, Mocca, Cosmetic, Gobi, Sand
Admiral, Dark Navy, Black and Nearly Black.

The fit was very good and true to its size recommendation.  The envelopment varied.  The tights hugged very well at the thigh, tummy and hips yet less strong at the calves.  I wore the tights on a 15 hour journey (of which 11 hours were on the flight) and the tights did not bag at all.  This suggests a very good elasticity even with a small amount of elastane.  I had no troubles with the waistband.

The tights has an interesting silky look.  The colour is evenly distributed and the high quality finish makes it distinguishable from others.  The appearance is generally matte, but has a reflective sheen under direct sunlight.  The lightly reinforced toes are not very clear to see but it is present (see images below).

The texture was very pleasant to the skin.  It felt very smooth and soft.  The tights were so comfortable to wear that the reason I had to take it off after the long journey was because I need a shower.  The breathability was moderate.

The support was in contrast to the gradual support that we often see in leg support tights.  I felt medium support on the thigh tummy and hips.  Yet there was very little support on the calves.  This led me to wonder if the pair was more of a control top/thigh support tights than a leg support one.

Final words

The Synergy 40 Leg support Tights are very comfortable to wear thanks to its very soft and smooth texture.  It offers medium support on the thigh and panty.  However, the support is very light on the calves, which is rather unusual for leg support tights.

The tights is available throughout the year for €29, £25 or USD$49.
