I have been eyeing this one since its release last year. Finally got it from Hosieria during their 20% discount site-wide sale. If you are looking for the review of the previous version of the same style, you can click right here. So, without further ado, here we go…
Strengths & Weaknesses
⊕ Absolutely soft and smooth texture, very comfortable to the skin.
⊕ Tiny snags can be ameliorated with a few pulls at surrounding areas.
⊗ Bags form easily around the knees because of extra long hose.
⊗ Tight waistband dug in and rolled a bit.
Packaging & product description
The packaging is almost identical to the previous version of the same style. To differentiate between the two, Falke has made the following changes:
- Icons showing “NEW QUALITY” and “COMFORT WAISTBAND” on the front cover;
- Different article number: new version is 40490 while the previous version is 40493;
- Different price: new version is €2 or £2 more than the previous version.
Based on these differences, it shouldn’t be too difficult to identify the one you are after.
The product description online and on the rear of the packaging are quite different. Hence I have included both. They read:
“These elegant, sheer FALKE fine tights with an improved, even knit structure ensure a silky feel on the skin. The new, comfortable waistband promises not to roll or dig in, ensuring the highest possible comfort. The innovative gusset in the mesh structure guarantees a hygienic effect in sizes S–L and a shaping gusset in sizes XL–XXL as well as non-laddering toes.”
(On rear cover)
- Elegant, transparent fine tights in subtly glossy look.
- Improved even mesh structure for a silky sensation on your skin.
- New comfortable waistband for the highest level of comfort: no curling and no pinching.
- Innovative mesh gusset with hygienic effect in sizes S-L and comfort gusset in sizes XL-XXL, with non-laddering toe.
Appearance & texture
The Seidenglatt 15 are sheer tights (15 denier) in shiny fashion. It is sheer-to-waist. The total length is 118cm long when laid on a flat surface. The distance between the tip of the waistband to the crotch is around 26cm. The texture feels soft and very smooth to the touch. The knitted waistband measures 3.5cm wide. There is no fingerband. A hygienic gusset is present, and the toe section is reinforced.
The composition is 88% polyamide and 12% elastane.
The size ranges from S to XXL. I have included the size chart below. Size M/L is used in this review.
At the time of writing this review, there are 11 shades available online. I have extracted the colours into a gallery, which you can view them below. I bought Black for this review.
The fit wasn’t good! The hose was significantly long and thus bagged easily around the knees. Mind that I am less than an inch short from the top end of the size recommendation range, which is 5’8”. My guess is that Falke made the style longer to compensate the not-so-elastic yarn and/or knitting construction. Or, in a rare case, a M/L size tag was mistakenly sewn on a size L product. Whatever the reasons, the result was unpleasing.
The envelopment on the other hand, was relatively good. The tights firmly hugged the calves and the ankle, while gentle at other areas.
I found the waistband being a little tight. You could see from the images below that it dug in and rolled a bit. The texture was comfortable to the skin though.
The appearance looked amazing when bags were not present. The colour was evenly distributed and the tights had a look of very high quality.
Although advertised as “shining”, the tights actually have slight sheen. The characteristic of the sheen is more towards mirror shine (see CdR Eterno range) than glitter.
It is worth mentioning that the tights came with several tiny snags. But these snags disappeared with a few gentle pull at surrounding areas.
The tights felt absolutely soft and smooth. The new knitting construction was indeed very comfortable to the skin. In addition, the breathability was also very good.
Frankly speaking, I am disappointed with the sizing, which outweighed the very comfortable feel the tights have to offer. I might get hold of a pair in size M to see size difference. Until then, I wouldn’t recommend unless you are very confident with the sizing. In addition, I have written an email to Falke U.K. to confirm whether the previous version will be replaced by the new one. I have not received a reply yet, and will update it once I do.
The new Seidenglatt 15 tights are available for €16 or £16. You can buy them directly from Falke online shop:
