I was browsing Gerbe items at Hosieria website when I noticed this particular style. It has no elastane content, and uses stretch voile instead. So I decided to give it a try and see whether it works…
Strengths & Weaknesses
⊕ Reinforced toe and heel.
⊙ Almost invisible appearance.
⊙ No elastane, hence only slight elasticity.
⊙ Loose envelopment, like thin fabric floating on the skin.
Packaging & product description
The packaging was more or less the same as the Gerbe styles I reviewed before. In brief, a two-fold cardboard is used to secure the product in place. It is then placed in a tri-fold cover, and wrapped in a transparent plastic sleeve. The product description, size chart, composition and wash labels are printed on the back of the cover. There is also a small note attached on the inner side of the packaging. It says “Votre article a été soigneusement vérifié par Marie” on the note, which means “Your article has been carefully checked by Marie” in English.
The description for the style are more detailed online than on the back of the packaging. I have extracted it, which reads:
“Sheer matte tights, 15 denier appearance, in stretch voile. Timeless influence… Natural and authentic refinement of the voile upon your skin.”
- Ultraflat seamless waistband
- Back comfort panel
- Silk gusset
- Reinforced heels and toes
Appearance & texture
The Voile 15 is sheer tights (15 denier appearance) in slight sheen fashion. The total length measures 107cm long when laid on a flat surface. The texture is relatively soft, but not particularly smooth or silky to the touch. The panty is shaped like a boxer’s brief. It is 24.5cm long and has a semi-opaque appearance. There is an extra panel at the rear side of the panty. The knitted waistband measures 4.5cm wide. The distance from the tip of the waistband to the crotch is 23cm. There is a gusset, which is made from silk. The toe and the the heel section are reinforced.
The composition is 98% polyamide and 2% silk.
The size ranges from 0 to 6. I have included the size chart below. Size 3 is used for this review.
At the time of writing this review, there are 9 colours available on the online shop. They are (from left to right): Poudré, Opaline, Gazelle, Cappuccino, Marine, Sinfonie, Flandres and Noir. I bought Gazelle for this review, of which is highlighted in the image below.
The fit was relatively loose. This could have been due to two factors. Firstly, according to the size chart, size 3 could fit up to 178cm, while I am only 171cm. Secondly, the tights have no elastane, thus have very little elasticity. Likewise, the envelopment was pretty loose. The tights were like a piece of thin fabric floating on my legs as I walk around. It didn’t take long for the bags to form around the knees. The waistband was very comfortable however, and I didn’t have any issues on such.
The appearance was almost invisible! It is noticeable only because of the slight sheen nature. To me it was like a pair of ultra-sheer tights.
The toe section was made especially large. You can see from the image below that it has a significantly wider coverage than we usually see. The reinforced heel was not made particularly thick. Hence the colour difference was not as obvious as the toe section.
I have to say, the quality of the Voile 15 is the best Gerbe product I have experienced so far. There was no snags found on the tights when I took it out from the packaging. The two-fold cardboard has clear-cut edges, and there was no debris during unboxing. This is a huge improvement for Gerbe, and I am really happy for them.
As I mentioned earlier, the tights were soft on the skin but not particularly smooth. It is not in the sense of uncomfortableness but feels slightly “synthetic”. In addition, I felt the tights being thinner than the advertised 15 denier appearance. It was also for this reason that the tights ventilate well.
Despite having stretch voile, the tights have very little elasticity. Hence I would only recommend it if you are on the very right end of a particular size range, or go down one size.
I actually like the quality and the design of the Voile 15 tights. I am tempted to get one size smaller and see if that is really my size for Gerbe products. I will update this review when I acquire the item again.
The Voile 15 tights is currently available for €30. The range also comes in stay-ups, stockings and knee highs in the same denier appearance. In addition, it also contain styles in different denier, like Voile 20 tights or Voile 7 stockings.
