I was reading online news the other day and there was one saying that the first snowfall arrived in Hokkaido, Japan. It reminded me that I have not done an opaque tights review for some time. As I am in Spring heading towards Summer, I thought I better get started before it becomes too warm. The first one I would like to share with you is the the Eighty from Heist Studios.
The tights were gifted from Heist Studios. However, I have 100% freedom of expressing my thoughts on these tights.
Strengths & Weaknesses
⊕ Very wide toe seam give extra room for the toes.
⊕ Wooly and durable feel.
⊙ Rinse before wearing recommended.
⊗ Waistband rolls down when pulled up to cover stomach.
Packaging & product description
The packaging is the same as the Nude I reviewed early this year. Basically, the tights is secured using a thin piece of cardboard, and wrapped in a black-coloured envelope. It is then placed in a rectangular box made of cardboard. Tights specs are provided on the rear bottom of the envelope. If you are especially interested in the packaging, you can see more pictures here.
There is no product description on the packaging, so I have extracted it from online. The description reads:
“Keeps the warm in and the winter out. Nothing gets past our 80 deniers.”
- No rolling. Our adaptive waistband is designed so it won’t roll, twist, or dig into you. Low to sit on your hips, or High to cover your stomach.
- No gusset. Our seamless design means a toe-to-toe tube. Uncomfortable centre-seams are a thing of the past.
- No sagging. Our innovative yarn has 5,000 spirals per inch. Long story short, it’ll last the test of time.
- Just you. We design our tights with only you in mind. The result: total freedom and comfort.
Appearance & texture
The Eighty is opaque (80 denier) tights in matte fashion. It is totally seamless on the panty. The total length of the tights is 91cm, while the hose itself is around 71cm. The length from the bottom of the waistband to crotch is 7cm. The tights are cottony and durable to the touch. I received the high waistband option, which measures 15cm wide. Its circumference is around 48cm. There is no tag on the inner side of the waistband, and there is no gusset. However, you can see that special care was done on the knitting around the crotch. The toe section isn’t particularly reinforced (but it is 80 denier).
The composition is 92% polyamide and 8% elastane.
The size ranges from UK4-22 (EU32-52; US0-20). I have included the size chart below. I was gifted with Size UK10 (EU40, US6-8).
At the time of writing this review, there is only one colour: Jet Black, which is essentially black colour. Hence, this is the colour used in this review.
I was washing the tights for the first time to realise that there are significant amount of residual dye. I therefore recommend you rinse the tights before wearing it.
The fit was very good and true to the size recommendation. It was pretty elastic too. I could feel that the tights were not stretched to its fullest. Yet, there was no bagging around the knees, even after a full day of wearing. The envelopment was also very good, especially on the thigh. The hug was firm, as if having a moderate support. I however had a slight problem with the waistband. It rolled down whenever I pull it up to cover my stomach. This was probably due to the circumference around the stomach is greater than that of my waist. I don’t have such problem with low waistband option.
As you would have expected, the appearance was not glamorous but plain and solid. The black colour means it was not build for attraction. However, it is the safest colour to go for even in cooler days, especially when you are in a hurry. Given the thick, solid appearance, I didn’t think it made my legs look slimmer.
The tights felt like fine cotton. It was fairly thick, and thus felt very durable. I felt pretty warm on my lower body with these tights on. The indoor temperature was around 14°C.
One of the things I like about the Eighty is that Heist made their toe seam especially long. This means my toes have plenty of room to wiggle around. Women may find the space being too big, but for men, they are as sweet as a candy.
As I mentioned earlier, the high waistband did roll down, and was causing a bit of hassle. Other than that, the tights were fairly cozy and comfortable to wear.
The Eighty seamless tights are pretty cozy and comfortable to wear. Yet, I would recommend the low waistband option if your lower chest is significantly wider than your waist.
The Eighty is currently available for £22, €30 or USD$38 forthe Low Waistband option, and £24, €35 or USD$42 for the High Waistband option.Heist – The Eighty – Jet Black 80 Denier Low Rise Seamless Tights
