Review: Wolford Diamond Snake Tights

Do you know that I in average, review one pair of Wolford hosiery every month?  It is a gratitude to the Brand who brought me into the world of designer hosiery.  In this review, we will look into a pair of patterned tights from Wolford’s Autumn/Winter 19-20 collection – the Diamond Snake Tights.

Strengths & Weaknesses

⊕ Chic fishnet appearance in a sense of snakeskin.

⊙ Feels like wearing semi-opaques in terms of breathability and warmth.

⊗ Smaller fit due to restricted stretchiness.

Packaging & product description

The packaging uses the thin cardboard, tri-fold cardboard and transparent plastic sleeve manner.  Its presentation is very similar to the Pure Shimmer 40 Concealer Tights I reviewed a while ago.  Feel free to go to my Flicker website to view the actual size images.

I like the replacement “be” with an image of a bee.

The product description is the same online and at the rear cover.  It reads:

“Resembles a snake in every way.
This authentic take on a snakeskin is like putting on a second skin.”

Appearance & texture

The Diamond Snake are sheer (20 denier) tights in matt fashion.  It features interwoven, protruding black threads, which elongate horizontally on the front side.  The result creates a 3-dimensional, snakeskin-like pattern from toe to waist.  The total length of the tights measures 83cm when laid on a flat surface.  Its texture isn’t particularly soft or smooth to the touch.  The knitted waistband measures 3cm wide.  The distance between the tip of the waistband and the crotch is around 21cm.  There is a gusset, and the toe section is not reinforced.

The composition is 60% nylon, 31% polyester and 9% elastane.

Colour

At the time of writing this review, there are three colours available online.  They are: Icy Mint/Black Black/Black and Gobi/Black.  I bought Gobi/Black for this review.

FIT

Well, surprisingly, the tights barely fitted.  Careful examination revealed that Wolford uses a special knitting technique to bind the black threads onto the tights, creating “knots” whenever black threads intercept.  This drastically restricted the tights’ stretchiness.  If you happen to sit between sizes, I definitely suggest upsize.

See how black threads and the tights get tied up into knots.

The envelopment was quite good, with firm grip on the legs.  In addition, though it looked narrow, the waistband fitted well.

Looks especially like macro-fishnet tights from the side.

LOOK

I really like the look, yet not because it looks like snakeskin.  Rather, I see them as fishnet tights (especially when viewed from the side or back), and the elongated mesh at the front side gives a chic look.  The tights did look like snakeskin when I took them off though, as it retracts to its original size.

The quality build is exceptional.  You can see the knots, which tie the black threads onto the tights, yet there was not a single snag to be found.

It is worth mentioning that the “foundation” actually has a reflective sheen appearance (as opposed to matt).  My guess is that Wolford uses a texture very similar to Mat 10 Tights as base.  Also, the waistband and gusset are in black colour, for all colour selections.  It did look a bit unusual at first.

FEEL

The tights felt a bit itchy at first but the sensation got less apparent after wearing it for a while.  It also felt thicker because of the protruding black threads.  Hence it was more like wearing a pair of semi-opaque than sheer, in terms of breathability and warmth.

The knitted waistband was pretty comfortable, despite being only 3cm wide.

Final words

This was the first time I encounter a size running smaller than normal with Wolford.  Otherwise, the presentation and quality is great and I definitely recommend it.

The style is available from Wolford for €39, £39 or USD$67.
