Given the delivery of international parcels are still affected by the pandemic, I have been stalking on what is available locally. Coincidentally, a reader of mine introduced VOODOO to me, so I headed down to the department store and bought myself a pair.
A very brief introduction about the brand… VOODOO is an Australian brand who has been making hosiery for over 40 years. Currently, their styles include tights, stay-ups and stockings. The company’s production line is based in China, Turkey and for a very small selection of styles, Japan.
The style I bought is not shown on the Brand’s website, which led me to believe it is a discontinued item.

Strengths & Weaknesses
⊕ Silky feel, very pleasant on the skin.
⊗ Seams protrude out, which could rub the skin.
⊗ Very small toe section.
⊗Tight panty and waistband.
Packaging & product description
The tights are wrapped around a thin cardboard, which is then placed inside a transparent, plastic bag. The contents are then sealed in an envelope-like cover made of cardboard. There is a small opening at the top of the cover for costumers to view the actual colour of the product. The description, size chart are printed on the rear cover. In addition, the style I bought is made from Japan.
The product description on the rear cover reads:
“There’s nothing more frustrating than getting a ladder in your sheers. It can ruin a professional or glamorous look, not to mention your day.
VOODOO LADDER CONTROL is an amazing new technology that controls laddering so you can continue looking stylish all day, even if you get a hole or a snag. Combine this with the seductive indulgence & quality of VOODOO and it’s the perfect fusion of luxury & technology.”
Appearance & texture
The Ladder Control Sheers are sheer (12 denier) tights in slight sheen fashion. It is sheer-to-waist. The total length of the tights is 81.5cm when laid on a flat surface. The texture is smooth and silky. It is also ladder-resistant. The knitted waistband measures 4.5cm wide. There is also a 2cm-wide fingerband. The distance from the tip of the waistband to the crotch is around 16.5cm. There is a gusset, and the toes are reinforced.
The composition is nylon, elastane, cotton and polyester. The exact percentage of each material is not stated.
There are three sizes for this style: Average, Tall and Extra Tall. I have included the size chart below. Size Tall was used in this review.
The pair I bought was the last on the shelf, and the style was not available on VOODOO’s website anymore. Hence I don’t have more info regarding the colour selection of the style. I bought Jabou for this review.
The fit was only moderate. The length was sufficient for me. The envelopment was good on the legs, but pretty tight on the panty, especially at the crotch. It was to the extent that it wasn’t comfortable to wear at all. As a male, my hips are generally smaller than females of a similar height. If I am experiencing tightness, I can’t imagine how ladies would feel.
The waistband was pretty tight and dug in right from the moment I put the tights on. Also, the toe section was very small. You could see from the image below that it couldn’t even cover all my toes. Based on all these observations, I don’t believe it can fit up to 180cm as the size chart suggested, even for ladies.
The tights exhibited a uniform slight sheen from waist to toe. The colour was evenly distributed apart from the heels, which looked slightly lighter.
Jabou is a dark taupe, light brownish colour. It is obviously darker than my skin tone, but that is the only available colour I could find. Yet, it didn’t look bad at all, especially if paired with earth-coloured clothing.
The tights have ordinary seams and thus protrude more than flat seams. It is thus more easy to spot if one wears tight-fitting clothing.
The material felt very smooth and silky. They were very comfortable on the skin. However, as I mentioned earlier, the panty and the waistband were too tight. Also, the seams on the panty could rub the skin if worn with bodysuit (i.e., no underwear).
The tights are breathable and is better suited for warmer climate.
I really felt pity for the style and the Brand as it uses high quality yarn, yet the measurements are not practical. The fit wouldn’t be satisfactory even for ladies of average size. If the measurements were better calculated, the style would have been an awesome one!
The original price was NZD$19.95, which is roughly €11.40, £10.37 or $13.33 in today’s exchange rates. I bought it for $12 during end-of-season sale.
